Perhaps a good descriptor for Dexter Dingus would be "Criminal genius inventor and 
reluctant partner of Pete."

Unless someone has a better description than that.  I can only tell this from the 
three stories which I've read so far.

He seems to be both afraid and disliking of Pete, in general, but teams up with 
him in hopes of personal gain from the partnership.  Given his druthers, he would 
have no relationship with Pete at all.  He hates Pete calling him "Dexie."
